There are many spectacular rivers to explore out West. From gentle sections, to big drops and continuous whitewater, there are plenty of excellent adventures to choose from. Let O.A.R.S. (Outdoor Adventure River Specialists) guide you on your whitewater adventure!
In 1965, when George Wendt first rafted through the Grand Canyon, he discovered a passion for river running that has led him around the world in search of the ultimate river experience. What he found instead was that there is no place more beautiful than our own country, and that there is no better way to experience the majesty of America than from the rivers that run through it.
So in 1969, George founded O.A.R.S. (Outdoor Adventure River Specialists) and dedicated his life to sharing his passion for river running with the world. Since then, O.A.R.S. has guided more than 300,000 guests on some of the most spectacular liquid pathways on earth, introducing them to the freedom, adventure, and camaraderie that arise from a wilderness experience, and bolstering their reputation as the world's pre-eminent rafting company. This year, you can experience some of those pathways firsthand in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah or Colorado.
In California the American River surges through the heart of California's Gold Country all season long. Take a one- or two-day trip on the moderate Class III whitewater of the South Fork, or on the Middle or North Forks, which offer intense Class IV thrills. If you'd like to challenge the heart-pumping Class IV rapids of the Tuolumne River - California's ultimate river experience - one, two, and three days trips are available April Through October. For a surge of high whitewater intensity - the kind that makes your heart leap to your throat and adrenaline rush through your body - head north to the Cal Salmon. This Class V river spills through a deeply forested canyon that lies between the majestic Trinity Alps and the Marble Mountains.
Known to many as the whitewater rafting capital of the world, Idaho's rivers access some of the most pristine terrain in the country. The Free-flowing Salmon River offers Class III and IV whitewater, big sandy beaches perfect for camping, beautiful mountain scenery, abundant wildlife, and natural hot springs. Perhaps inappropriately dubbed the "River of No Return" by early river runners, the Salmon is in fact a river you'll want to return to again and again.
In Oregon, the Rogue River offers Class III thrills at affordable rates with trips ranging from three to five days. Flowing through the pine-forested Siskiyou Mountains of southwestern Oregon, you float down the 45-mile federally protected Wild & Scenic section where you encounter dark green heavily wooded forests, blue skies, bright green meadows, narrow gorges and spectacular side streams with waterfalls and swimming holes. The whitewater on the Rogue is generally moderate, yet it features one-of-a-kind rapids that challenge even the best boatmen. The campsites are along sandy beaches...wonderful places to kick back with your friends, both old and newfound, fish or just relax. There is a large variety of bird life and occasional bear, deer, beaver and river otter. History abounds, colored by Indians, trappers and gold miners.
And gaining recognition as the outdoor recreation capital of the world, Moab, Utah and nearby Colorado offer some of the most incredible river experiences O.A.R.S. has to offer; not to mention world class mountain biking. From half-day rafting trips in Moab, to four- to six-day trips on the Colorado, Green and Yampa Rivers, O.A.R.S. has something for everyone. The Colorado River through Cataract Canyon has some of the biggest whitewater in North America during the spring run-off season and mellows out to a moderate Class III river expedition later in the summer. The Green and Yampa Rivers offer Class III excitement in some of the most remote regions of the Rocky Mountains, and scenery that is unmatched anywhere in the world.
Whether you're drawn to a fun, Class III excursion through rolling hill country or a challenging run in a deep, densely wooded gorge, join O.A.R.S. for an exciting whitewater adventure that you will never forget. |
